Who We Are

We provide Emergency Shelter to those experiencing homelessness from November-April annually. We work in partnership with Faith Communities in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County who host the shelter for one week at a time.  Each night volunteers from Faith Communities provide a warm place to sleep for 40 people, dinner, breakfast, showers, a compassionate ear and much, much more.

Permanent Supportive Housing program was identified as a need by volunteers when we would see some of the same people using the shelter each winter.  We are currently working to implement a program that will offer resources and workshops to our guests that will help break down the barriers to housing. We hope to offer workshops on stress management, financial stability, resume writing, job hunting and more. Furthermore, each evening we will have on staff at the shelter a trained Shelter Resource Manager who will be trained on the resources available to our guests in the area. 

What We Do

Open Doors (formerly HARTS: Harrisonburg and Rockingham Thermal Shelter) provides emergency winter shelter and support for those experiencing homelessness in our area.
